Introduction

The GamersGalaxie team recently hosted a Twitter Space with Luc Berkefeld, a representative from Medieval Empires. It was an exciting session where he shared a wealth of knowledge on the mechanics, gameplay, lore, and tokenomics of the captivating Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game, Medieval Empires. If you're interested in listening, the link to the space will be provided at the end of this post.

Coming off the heels of a fantastic Twitter Space session and noticing the recent update to the whitepaper, I believe it would be beneficial for everyone if I dove in and highlighted some key takeaways.

About Medieval Empires

Medieval Empires is an expansive online strategy game set in 13th-century Turkey, where players take on the role of Ertuğrul Gazi, leader of the Kayi tribe, facing off against Edward Longshanks during the 9th Crusade. Players build towns, trade, fight, and form alliances in a PvE environment, with continuous battles expanding the game universe. Progression is driven by completing daily missions, tasks, and story missions. The game will expand with new leaders and regions, including factions like the Mongols, Byzantines, and Mamluks. Built on the Polygon blockchain & plan on integrating Immutable zkEVM, it offers benefits such as player reach, security, and eco-friendliness. Available on PC, MAC, and Mobile, with full interoperability. The development team is experienced in both game development and blockchain technology.

Player Goals!

Early access has been running since June 29th, 2023, and I've been fortunate enough to secure a spot and start grinding my way to supremacy. Here are some goals you should consider when beginning to play

Short term Goals

Short-term goals, achievable within the same day, involve tasks like battling invaders, completing daily missions, claiming resources, producing items or NFTs, trading goods, and upgrading low-level buildings.

Medium Term Goals

Mid-term goals, to be accomplished within a month, include upgrading high-level buildings, unlocking new game elements, and successfully participating in events, either individually or as part of a clan.

Long Term Goals

Spanning up to a year, entail running a successful clan, which may encompass aspects like generating high income, amassing a large and loyal following, and making a significant impact on related events. Additionally, players aim to attain leadership positions on leaderboards, including those for Realm vs. Realm events, and strive for in-game prestige.

Gameplay Area’s

In Medieval Empires, players face threats from all sides, presenting them with the choice of becoming merchants, formidable warriors, or influential clan leaders. As you defend against invaders, players embark on a journey to construct towns, assemble armies, recruit heroes, seize territories, and establish your own clans, immersing yourself in a historically inspired strategy adventure. With relentless battles unfolding, you have the chance to train your heroes through diverse actions and experiences. Initially, much of the gameplay unfolds in a passive PvE mode, though more aggressive PvE and PvP modes are available as options.

Areas

In Medieval Empires, the gameplay area is divided into three main sections: the World Map, Provinces, and Towns, with additional granularity provided by Counties.

The World Map offers a broad overview of the game universe, allowing players to access various game features and stay informed about significant events. Landowners can manage their contracts through this view, which takes in all Provinces.

Provinces are the building blocks of the World Map, where most player interactions, such as missions, events, and battles, take place. Players can purchase counties within provinces, with each province containing several hundred counties.

Counties are smaller land divisions within provinces, accommodating 4 to 16 players, including the landowner. They hold prestige based on players' effectiveness in battling invaders and may unlock various in-game elements like units, decorative items, and resource bonuses.

Towns serve as the centre of progress and production, allowing players to create and upgrade units, gear, and heroes. They are vital economic hubs, producing core resources like wood, ore, and wheat, and can be customized according to players' preferences.

Heroes

Heroes are essential units within a player's army, possessing unique stats and abilities. Each army requires a Hero to lead it, and players must train and recruit Heroes using time and resources. These Heroes can vary in appearance, name, stats, and durability, and are minted on behalf of the players.

Heroes have a limited lifespan; they lose one durability unit with each battle they engage in. Once a Hero's lifespan expires, players can earn Legacy NFTs, which offer enhanced utility as a reward for the player's past gameplay and accumulated experience points.

Units

Units form the backbone of a player's army and are categorized into three types: Infantry, Range Units, and Cavalry. Each type of unit is produced in specific buildings: Infantry in Barracks, Archers in Archery Range, and Cavalry in Stables.

Upon creation, units possess fixed characteristics including appearance, name, stats, and durability, with each battle reducing their durability by one unit. Producing units requires both resources and time, with special units additionally requiring Silver Coins.

Special units can be crafted on unique land plots within the Town, enabling their production. These units can then be deployed in battles or sold to other players through the NFT marketplace, offering players additional strategic options and potential economic benefits

Land

The game features various types of land, starting with the initial area accessible to all new players. This starting land imposes no upfront fee to begin playing but levies the highest tax on rewards. Additionally, players are restricted in their progression within this area. While it allows you to start their game journey without prerequisites, they'll eventually need to transition to purchased land to advance further.

Land in Historic battles;

New land in Medieval Empires can be acquired through extensive, multi-week PvP events called Historic Battles. In these events, players from different factions vie for control over provinces through fierce PvP battles. If a faction successfully conquers a province, it transforms into a PvE area for the winning faction. High-performing players and clans may gain access to VIP auctions before the remaining counties are auctioned off.

These Historic Battles occur on Provisional Land, where you can establish temporary outposts with their armies. Unlike Permanent Land, where you build towns in regular gameplay, Provisional Land is closed after the event. However, there's a potential future feature where Provisional Land from Historic Battles could become Permanent Land if conquered by a faction.

Land Tier Breakdown

Here is a break down of the different Land tiers and their corresponding buffs.

Value Cycle/Tokenomics

The MEE token's value cycle demonstrates how players can engage with and benefit from the game's ecosystem. Four primary value streams form the backbone of the game's economy:

$MEE as a basic Utility Token:

$MEE serves as in-game currency and facilitates various transactions, offering players access to enhancements and additional benefits to enrich their gaming experience. Moreover, holding MEE grants community and political influence, as well as opportunities for airdrops and special lands, all of which contribute to gameplay immersion.

$MEE as a currency for Dex Trades:

Players can utilise $MEE to acquire game coins and items through trades on the Medieval Empires DEX (decentralized exchange), broadening their in-game resources and capabilities.

GameFi:

The $MEE token enables the purchase and exchange of Lineage tokens and Heroes, allowing players to expand their arsenal and strategic options within the game.

P2P Taxes:

Land NFTs empower players to levy taxes on others while sharing land, fostering collaboration and competition. $MEE serves as the currency for paying P2P taxes, land rent, and acquiring upgrades and skills, enabling players to enhance their performance and accelerate their progress in the game.

You can also earn tokens through $MEE to play by participating the weekly event’s. The higher you are you are on the leaderboard the more chances of valuable prizes.

Roadmap

The next step in the Roadmap is Public Release (Open Beta) where everyone will be able to come in and participate and get a feel of the game.

My Thought’s & Expierence

Playing Medieval Empires has been incredibly exciting for me, as I thoroughly enjoy settlement building and real-time strategy games. It gives me vibes reminiscent of Age of Empires, with the need to build your army from scratch and recruit corresponding heroes. It's a game that demands a lot of hours to grind your way to the top. Currently, I'm only at a small settlement, level twelve, but I'm steadily working on improving it. However, my only challenge is finding enough time to play as often as I'd like.

I truly believe this game deserves a spot on your radar and is one to watch. Even in its early stages, I can sense its potential for success, especially when it releases on mobile platforms. The Twitter Space I hosted with Luc Berkefeld left me feeling very optimistic about its future, given the forward-looking information he shared with us.
